Why do you guys watch stuff so often?
My record lies at a mere three views for Mulholland Drive.

There are also only two books I read twice and I hear people re-read stuff all the time.

I tend to play a lot of movies I particularly enjoy as just background ambiance while I'm working around the house, in which case I'll sporadically tune in and out.

Maybe I'm not very observant, but when I watch something a second or third time, I nearly always notice something subtle that I missed the first time around.

With comedies though, I just watch 'em because they're funny

Well, playing movies as "background ambience" is obviously different from "watching" them.

But I feel that almost everything becomes stale and uninteresting when repeated. Of course you might notice new details but for me the movie just stops working as a whole.
Some deserve to be seen twice, when knowing the ending sheds a new light on certain scenes, but for a third viewing... my only reason with Mulholland Drive was showing it to a friend and laughing at his 2 hour non-stop -face.
And with comedies it's even worse, how doesn't repetition kill all the jokes? Or do you guys consider this to be funny DAVE DRESDEN?

I now have a rule where once I've watched a film, I must rate it on the IMDB and then cannot watch it again. It's a good way of making you really pay attention to a film, because you'll only get the one viewing (occasionally a second viewing if it requires one), and it also stops me endlessly re-watching the same staples: Jaws, Predator, Enter The Dragon, Robocop...

Some comedies (especially bad ones) become funnier the more times you watch them, when you can anticipate the lines.

For me the repeats are Ong Bak, Super Troopers, BioDome, Not Another Teen Movie, I Love You Man and It's All Gone Pete Tong. I think I literally watched NATM once a month for a couple of years, though I'm quite over it now.
