Can't really see why you have posted here? You story is not an inspiration to young DJs. Promoter says dance and you dance, you are merely one of the billions of DJs out there who play to please the promoter and feel you qualify as something special because you can mix between two tracks. This is nothing new, I would have to listen to something to judge the transition between tracks when you mix and how your set as a whole makes me feel although me saying that suggests that I want to hear it, which I don't.
What you are telling me is that you will sell your soul for the slightest of attention and cash. True DJs see Djing as a for of art and creation, moving people in ways that a single track cannot and take pride in the time they spend preparing to do this week in week out.
My message to young DJs would be: don't worry if you don't get picked up straight away, find your unique style, stick with it and be true to yourself. You will get there in the end. Obviously promotion is essential, don't just do a mix cd put it on your bedroom shelf and leave it there, people won't find it lol

There's nothing wrong for DJing to make money and please a meathead crowd, just as there is nothing wrong with DJing because you have a passion for music and want to share new music creatively with an audience.
That doesn't mean that you need to be a pretentious fucking douchebag about it... from either side.

I can't get over how this guy thinks he earns upwards of 500K a year spinning pop records.
If this IS true, then fuck my job and fuck my integrity, I'm doing what he does.

I think his wording was just poor. My assumption is that he really meant he makes a cumulated 10-15k a year not 10k per gig
let's average out 15000$ say over 35 gigs and that makes 428 dollars per night played out, which seems much closer to the reality of things.

Yes, he's talking about 10-15K per year, per residency. That's about how much I make too.

I'm a promoter and have been for 5 years, alot of the other promoters I work with passionately hate DJs for this exact reason because alot of them are up thier own arse and this fuck head doesn't do that stereotype justice. Please don't judge all DJs on this as some are down to earth and all round good guys.

To me this seems to be nothing else than the classic problem of commercialism and art. I think of DJing as a form of art, while the mixed set is the actual product. Every track, every transition, the tension arc, the whole composition matters.
LMAO

How much of that do you lose to the tax an and how many residencies do you hold down?
