Yeah, and one way around the google+ join moratorium besides that greasemonkey script, is to have people tag you in one of their posts. You should the receive an email from that person with a 'view or comment' link that leads to a join button.
This is how I got in, and I was able to get two others in. Not sure of it's still working.
