Meh. Cottaging is all about the Muskoka experience and simple pleasures though. Boating, canoeing, camping, hiking, water sports, drinking on a dock, bbqing, enjoying the beauty that is Northern-ish Ontario/getting back to nature, learning about the local history, etc. And most importantly, it's about bonding with friends and family. Cottaging is awesome because of all the friends you make that you go back year after year to see, and the memories you make with your family.

Yeah, having a home in the Bahamas would also be awesome, but it's a totally different experience than cottaging. I'm sure many people would consider it a better experience, but I would take a cottage over that any day.

I was wondering what all of you were on about in this thread, but then wikipedia told me that in North America the term "cottage" means holiday home.

this is my grandparents cottage.. it was alot smaller when they purchased it in the 60's. in the early 80's they added a huge addition making it a 2 storey house, which they moved into permanently. There was also a cabin on the property closer to the dock.

our dock:

i sure do miss that place...

Also, why is it that when referring to glitzy places like Miami, it's always a condo, while in a more plain city it's simply called an apartment? As far as I know, the words are pretty much synonymous.

Condos are owned, not rented -- at least that's how the term is used in the U.S.

Right, so condo implies more wealth. Can the word apartment also be used for something you own?
