I would buy a PS2 JUST for FINAL FANTASY
thats EXACTLY the reason why i sold my psx and got a ps2... and now im regretting doing that.
why?
A) after watching the end of FFX i wished i hadnt even bought that fucking game
B) if you only play rpgs, like me, odds are you are STILL waiting for quality games to come out. the only two worth buying have been FFX and grandia 2.. but grandia 2 sucks ass. and ive had my ps2 for over a year... and still nothing good. before xmas, hack will be out and maybe one or two more but the selection has really been ridiculous.
for any other kind of game, its good. but the rpg selection in the last year or so has just been dismal, on any platform.

Mario Tennis for N64 ownz!
And do not buy a game cube and make the same mistake I did. There are very few games and they are 95% kiddie games (aimed at kids in elementary school). You won't find any gore whatsoever in a game cube game. PS2 is your best bet...only $50 more and its worth it.

I don't understand why there's this perception that video games are only for people of a certain age.
I got my first console in 1984 at the age of 4 (Atari 2600) and I've never stopped gaming since then.
If GTA 3 looks like fun go and pick up a PS2, it's the best of the new systems for games (with the Nintendo Gamecube being a close second) and has the most adult oriented games.
I picked up GTA 3 when it came out last year and was blown away with it, there's also a new GTA coming out this fall, Vice City or something to that effect. Metal Gear Solid 2 is another highly regarded "adult" game which should be a $20 greatest hits release soon, along with Final Fantasy X, the best RPG for the system.
If you like video games now is just a good of a time as any to pick up a new console, or an old one...I've still been having more fun playing old games on my NES lately (and pinball...but those things are getting harder to find ) than anything for the past year...give me a little one on one Blades of Steel action any day

Hey Aldrian, have you ever played Shenmue? It gives you a lot of freedom too (though you'll get frustated at times)
Available for Dreamcast and some other console (Buying a Dreamcast isn't a good idea unless you like the other games that were already released - they won't release anything else after 2002)
No game offers you more freedom than The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind...I'm in love with this game
