I frequently read in the newspaper an illegal house party (the word rave isn't used a lot here) was ended by the police over here in Holland. Mostly without any problems. So no, it's not dead. They still can't stop raving

We don't need warehouses, because we use clearings in the forest. There's too many old logging roads, and not enough bother for cops to find out about them. And when they do show up, it's late/early in the morning, and they just make sure no one is leaving drunk. Sometimes I'm sure we must have one of the best party scenes there is. No pretentious douchebags or DJ snobs. Just a bunch of expressive mountain hippis dressed up in ridiculous outfits all high as shit.

Yeh I heard the canadian rave scene is good, there's a "documentary" aka video collage of the "west canadian psy scene" on documentary heaven/youtube

I think it all depends on where you live...for example, I live in MN and the club scene is shit.
However there is a decent scene in Brazil, Greece, Germany, etc. In the USA, there is a large following however for some reason nobody organizes any events! I hear there's some decent clubs in LA & NYC though.

Well I live on the west coast of Canada now. Known world wide for it's amazing skiing/snowboarding. As a result of it's "party/live in the moment/get extreme" mentality, it only follows that people have migrated here from different parts of Canada and the world to make a pretty damn good party scene.

I was actually thinking about posting a thread titled "Is the rave coming back?"

Seems to be, but I wasn't sure if it was just something that was occurring in my small town, or if it was happening elsewhere.

Of course, nobody calls it "rave" here either, but that's basically what's happening. Of course, it's not like we have a thousand people at a time so it's probably easy to get away with.

rave became a dirty word. people are all grown up now, and rave was a childish thing we did when we were stupid kids. like meriter said, it moved from the warehouse to the club, and in doing so the music got watered down into a classy version. it went from an atmosphere of togetherness and community to competitiveness and status. all of the ravey sounds like supersaws got stripped away so all that was left was "deep" repetitive music like progressive house, deep house, and minimal. my perception is that nowadays people have had enough of the deep sound, and are looking back at the early 90's and saying "hmm, you know, those ravey sounds were not that bad, let's stick a little siren or hoover on top of my house track". and more people are throwing free parties in the woods and on beaches to get away from promoter/bar owner politics to have more freedom with the music.

I can't speak for the Southern end of CA, but in Norcal it's still fairly alive. Not thriving, but it's still around, although it's morphed mostly into a bunch of bros and prostitots grinding to dubstep, dutch house and moombahton. A few massive style events get thrown and there are still a handful of ug warehouse parties that are around the East Bay. Fashion styles and music genres have changed a lot these past 5 years and I find myself as a stranger to a scene I once enjoyed. I've retired though.

There is NOTHING "ravey" about the supersaws. THat's stadium trance, and it has NOTHING to do with raves. Rave IS deep repetetive music. Get your facts straight.
