I only have a couple of unreleased trance tracks that each trance-crackster would love to have (tracks that never got label-approved or the remixer never got approval for)

They're collectors items. Limited editions make the price higher, but it's also a combination of greatness and cachet within a scene. It can also be simply a collectors item that record collectors would love to have to make a collection truly great and complete. The numbers are limited, the vinyl can't be repressed easily, and even if it is, there will still ever be one original pressing. They are a high price simply because people want them so much they are willing to shell out for it. There is a mythical/legendary quality about some records.

They're modern relics.

Some of them, like the Mtume I posted, are promotional copies. The non-promo version is worth much much less. I found that one in a dollar bin

Others like the definitive ambient collection comp I posted are the only place where certain tracks can ever be heard, and the artist lineup on that comp is stacked.

But my records aren't that valuable even. Like PivotTechno posted, there are records going for 500-1000 dollars us on discogs

i have a bunch of stuff around $30-40 US tops.

like this one:

http://www.discogs.com/Various-R%C3.../release/372380

it got held up at customs for 2 months because it has a metal plate on the front cover. very weird packaging too: folded paper inserts holding the cds, a booklet and 3 paper loops just big enough to hold all that together.

it's a limited run too, and features some well-known artists, but i don't know why it's worth even that much.

Here's a few (crates more where this came from), not trance-related but still guaranteed to give Nefardec a few chills:

"New York City" Miroslav Vitous (Popsike)

"The More I Get, The More I Want" Lorraine Johnson (12" remix) (Popsike)

"Walk Away From Your Love" David Ruffin (Promo 12") (Popsike)

"Thank God It's Friday" (Box Set) (Popsike)

"Coke" (early re-edit) Tribe (Popsike)

"One More Try" Ashford & Simpson (promo 12" mix) (Popsike)

"Super Disco" Queen Constance (Popsike)

"Erucu" (Sunshine Sound acetate) Jermaine Jackson (Popsike)

"We're On Our Way Home" Brainstorm (12") (Popsike)

Kind of weird because it was setting up to be something nice and edgy. I'm wondering if the YouTube rendering on a home system just can't do it justice, though.

i though it was pretty dope even though the four to the floor doesn't appeal to most people in the forum anymore and I can understand why, but ravey as it is, thats what its all about to the new listeners. I thought it seemed to pioneer into what I know to be the chicago hard house sound. Lots of examples i can think of like that with the same classic hollow kick drum, just sped up a few more BPMs, but with the same classic samples from shit like Beastie Boys, or movies like Pulp Fiction just the same.

I've got one of the 250 signed copies of Tool's Lateralus (signed before pressing). They usually go for $500-$1k on eBay.

it's a common thing within music of the last 50 years. all the most interesting composition work is done within introductions and interludes.

on another note I wouldn't mind owning that Pete Namlook collective on Rising High records either. I really enjoy going through all of his work on the FAX label as well. Ambient as well as acid, just all around good shit if you ask me.
Hard to believe not more genuine trance listeners out there from the ''93 era when the bangin' Frankfurt Beat was ruling the scene. That shit is like gold now. So ridiculously over priced but definitely not over-rated

Hard to say really as the price of vinyl has dropped so much over last few years I remember selling a few things like auranaut - people want to be needed and Ayu - m ep for a fair few quid 7/8 years ago and now they are worth hardly anything

Considering I went to a record store a few days ago and saw SHM - One for $15 US, how much would sasha's xpander go for? I have it and I'm curious. Bought it for $17 US back in 2002 I think. It's the one with this as the cover on the sleeve: http://www.chartstats.com/images/artwork/28553.jpg
