Best example I can give is the recent Tiesto - Work Hard Play Hard contest. Tiesto gave out 5 or 6 stems [cant remember] to remix.
Out of the top 10 submits, NONE of them utilized all stems given [which btw were NOT of the original track], only 6 of them used the vocal stem given, that's it.
If I were to do a contest of the sort wouldn't it be easier to just say "Here is the vocal track, put this to your best song you can create"?
Why even bother with stabs or bassline or drum tracks.
To me it seems as if the producer is really trying to say.."I have lost all physical creativity and I need you to help me with ideas"?

Seriously, maybe it is difficult to understand.

In another example of the way I try to approach these contests.
When ZTrip did his remake years ago of Rush's Tom Sawyer, I instantly thought NOOOO!!! Hes gonna shred this classic song for the sake of "creativity". However, when I listened to it I was surprised to find that he took 99.5% of the original song, tweaked them and rearranged the composition. In essence, he "remixed" the song AND kept integrity of the original. He didnt come up with a completely different piece and in the end paid homage to Rush.
Why isnt it more like that? Why cant these contests respect the original song and artist by keeping the integrity of the song but altering it in a manner that still makes it a unique song?

Why do you care so much? And why do you think what you just said here is impossible unless you take parts directly from the song you're remixing?

Cause apparently people like me who like to mangle and glitch samples from the original track into an entirely new genre have no creativity.
