thanks eddie. yeah, i'm doing what "Storyteller" told me to do. it might cause conflicts, but if it works, it'll cause the scrollbar to be a normal full page scrollbar, instead of a scrollbar for the box/div itself. i'll see how it goes.

I made a mistake though. The header and footer should have position:fixed; instead of absolute.

Interestingly enough, using position:fixed moves the entire content off the page. Here's my current heading setup:

.center
{
margin:auto;
width:1024px;
height: 624px;
position: absolute;
left: 50%;
top: 50%;
margin-left: -512px;
margin-top: -312px;
}
.center2
{
width:1045px;
height:540px;
border:none;
overflow-y:scroll;
overflow-x:hidden;
}

The header and footer is in a single div, ".center". The header is stuck to the top, while the footer is stuck to the bottom using tables. The internal content within the header and footer is scrollable (".center2"). Any help? If these problems keep up, I may just center the page horizontally and leave the vertical experiments out of it.

There's a lot to be said about the way the design is implemented (styling information should only be in the style tag and not in the HTML lines for instance). So I hacked my way through things.

This should help:

code:
.center { margin:0px auto; width:1024px; } .center2 { width:1045px; } #apDiv2 { position:relative; width:50px; height:30px; z-index:0; left: 611px; top: 0px; } body { background-color: #000; } .footer { background: #000; position:fixed; bottom: 0px; width: 1034px; }

Also some minor change is needed in the HTML. Just the last table element though. Remove the width="1024" attribute from that table, and add class="footer". Then you should have it (visually) looking like it should. I think.

It works yumfully

http://www.ayloneticsounds.com/index_footertest.html

I do have one question, though. If my content extends past the page, will the scroll bar appear once again? It seems that the footer moved to the bottom of the screen, which is perfect, however, I'm worried that if I add more content and you actually have to scroll to see more, the scrollbar beside the div will appear once again.

Nope . You'll just get a regular scrollbar now. You can copy the news items over and over to give it a quick try .

Mate, I'm going to give you honest feedback as if I'm a customer stumbling on it;

1) Ok first impression - I would have no idea what this site was about. It is built as if the user already knows you / what you do, it's not at all intuative.

You need a large lettered overview of what the whole site is about, something like 'Welcome, this site aims to provide you with sounds for the following synths' (and each synth name is clickable to take you to the soundbanks).

2) Some gramatical errors such as sentances not starting with a capital - this matters.

3) The tabs at the top - not intuative. I would not know what 'marketplace' means so I just would click away from the site. Instead it should say 'products' or 'soundbanks for sale'.

4) Confusion - some text is meaningless to an outsider such as 'website variant' - wtf!! Imagine Amazon had a section called 'mp3 variant thingy'!

5) Design - I love minimal sites, but this site of yours is really lacking in design and flair - it looks just like a standard word only advert in a local newspaper - or the births and marriage columns.

Personally I'd start over and aim for something like this, where each of the light boxes here could be for a soundbank with a piccy of each synth showing;

Thanks for the constructive criticism. I really appreciate you taking the time to write all this.

To start off, I will not be starting from scratch. This is a given and will definitely not be happening. I have constant homework, need to apply for college, have to take tests, and so on. I am also an internationally ranked tennis player and travel everywhere to play tournaments. My time is constricted, and I definitely do not have enough of it to create a whole new website. Creating this site alone was already past my limits. I could pay a designer to create one for me, but I do not have the money for that either.

I'll comment on each one of your points to make things more organized.

1. Let's take a logical standpoint on this. If you come to this website, knowing it is a soundset reseller, you will know that of all the tabs, "marketplace" is the one you will go to to purchase soundsets. Random people won't be coming to my site. It's as if a person looking to buy the next generation of Call of Duty went onto Loopmasters to purchase it; that simply is not going to happen. The only people that will come to my site, will know what I am about.

2. I beg to differ. Please tell me if I am wrong, but that is the only grammatical error you will find, but this is intended. The lack of capital letters are a trademark across the site and not grammatical errors. Please explain why this matters. I see sites that do the same, or have all capital letters without any lowercase ones, and they are quite successful as well.

3. This goes back to your first point. If you come to the site looking for soundsets to purchase, you have options "news", "marketplace", "forums", "contact", and "about". They only logical place where soundsets would be located would be the "marketplace" tab. However, if this is really important, and I get the same feedback, this tab can be easily changed to "products".

4. I agree with you on this one. I tried to be out of the ordinary on some things, and it just didn't make sense. I will remove this stuff.

5. I quite like the design myself, as have many people I have talked to. If you don't like the design, well, simply don't visit the site. If a vast majority of people say they like the design, I won't change it to better suit a smaller majority. I'm sure there is a design that will suit everyone at the same time, or better said, a larger majority, but as I said, I simply do not have the time to go and experiment with designs or start from scratch.

Once again, I really want to thank you for taking the time to write all that.

Yes. The only page that has the newer footer update is the following:

http://www.ayloneticsounds.com/index_footertest.html

I still have to create a global CSS rule that creates this effect.
