"12 years ? where do they come up with that number. "

paying 100 a year (or less) for an office chair is nothing. I pay 5x more for my internet alone. Anyone saying otherwise needs a reality check. Good desk chairs do not come for less than 300. Of course spending 1200 is only warranted if it's used your working environment (like sitting behind the computer all day). Or if you already have back problems.

True, but you can pick up a decent office chair for $200 (see the ikea one for instance) and you can still work...going cheap on your internet connection (like 56k dial up) and your work is seriously hindered.
When paying $1200 for a chair you're paying at least $600 for wank factor. If you know anyone that works in the high end furniture biz, then you know the margins are on those things

I agree somewhat. It does depend on ones physical condition to profit from having such an expensive chair. Sitting isn't a problem for me. I got a 50 Euro Ikea desk chair for 3 years now and it's just fine.
I get problems when standing up for a long time though , my spine looks like a spiral. It's shit.
