PRODIGY!! What other act can you think of that originally began with two members specifically recruited to dance at live shows? It was Liam Howlett, two dancers, and an MC. One of the dancers later became the lead vocalist

I have also been lucky enough to witness The Chemical Brothers live and they put on quite a spectacular show. Moby is also very entertaining for just one man, but I don't really view him as a dance act, more like electronic live PA. I haven't seen Underworld, Faithless, Orbital, or Daft Punk, but I only hear good things and there's probably a reason why they have so many fans.

More albums were to follow, but his 1979 concert served as a blueprint for his future performances around the world. Several of his albums have been released to coincide with large-scale outdoor events, and he is now perhaps as well known as a performer as a musician.
Jarre has sold an estimated 80 million albums and singles.[1] He was the first Western musician to be allowed to perform in the People's Republic of China, and holds the world record for the largest-ever audience at an outdoor event."

The results are in! From September to December last year, you voted in your tens of thousands to decide who was the greatest dance act of all time.

The poll was embraced by fans from Birmingham to Buenos Aires – acts campaigned fiercely, heated debate ensued and all of our expectations were exceeded by your response to the poll.

And now the wait is over. Below is a list of your top twenty greatest dance acts of all time, including the all important winner.

In a closely run battle, we can now reveal that The Prodigy have emerged victorious, pipping robotic legends, Daft Punk, into second place by a very tight margin.

Keith Flint of The Prodigy commented: “To walk off a stage and feel like we smashed it – that’s the reward for us, to see the crowd react and know we’ve done what we’ve come to do. But something like this is truly voted for by the people – and essentially we are nothing without them, so it feels awesome and really respectful.”

All at Mixmag offer congratulations to The Prodigy, an act who have managed to stay as exciting as ever, over two decades on from their first gig.

The full results are published in the latest issue of Mixmag, on sale today (Thursday January 19) with comment from all the acts in the top 20. You can grab an iPad/iPhone version here.

We are sure you will have plenty say on the results of the poll, so get busy in the comment boxes below.

I probably haven't heard enough Jean Michel Jarre; but I wouldn't considered it a dance act.

I mean how would you dance to Oxygene ?
