I always thought Hybrid was way ahead of their time back in the early 2000's. Hell they even had a full orchestra perform Wide Angle for a radio special one time

And a lot of the big trance tunes have dumbed down to dumb Eurotrance tunes from back in the day. Just a musical observation, but I think those days from the early 2000s, shit was so ahead of its time; producers are currently scaling back, skill-wise. The obvious Ableton preset effects are being used, but not really the sound design and more difficult things that were once done..

i see what you mean about eurodance etc
alot of producers are blending too many styles into it
but when the melody comes in thats the main focus...very loud and high above everything else...the emotion factor is pretty much gone

these days finding quality trance tunes is a lil bit harder
cant really focus on the big guys they are too busy playing the eurodance,mash-ups,vocals,pop etc etc

Yes! This is what I was trying to communicate. Some of the "old sound" is really the present sound or can still be used now. I just miss that really deep melodic sound.

Even some of the sounds Tiesto (and his producers) were coming up with at the time were just so much more involved. You can tell hours were spent on sound design and developing new synths and sounds that were never heard before. And that was Tiesto, the most famous and most successful DJ then at the time, it wasn't an underground guy. That was a case of the most popular guy in the scene also being one of the guys innovating it the most (in my opinion). Just listen to Tiesto's remix of "Southern Sun" again and I don't think a producer would be able to recreate some of the sounds used in there.

Now, it's the opposite. It's not even a matter of taste or personal preferences in music. Any seasoned producer will tell you the complete lack of effort that marks this era (the last 3-5 years) apart from the one before it. Even the cheesiest songs from 2000-2005 era had more attention to detail than the ones now, from a production perspective. [/rant]

+1.

i also have noticed that remixes of a song tend to suck more then the original version nowadays. I guess each "artist" that is working on remixing a song, thinks not to put something new and different out there. they won't get recognized for it or something. so they end up remixing a weak version of it.

god i missed those time where you could have 3 other awesome mix to a song

oh yeah i guess my two cent of the topic. i never listen more then two of his podcast within a year.. since from the beggining of that. i think it got big on the 50th.. not sure. But yeah never cared for it. He was too fluffy for my taste. i wanted the harder stuff the other djs were playing.

i thought he was weak. How ever my view changed when i saw the video interview he did with tiesto. there he said how he always wanted to rule the radio waves with more of an "emotional" trance sounds. That's when i got a overwhelming feeling of a douche. He is playing what he always wanted. That's why i respect him.

I do since work allows it and I remember to tune in. BUT I don't rush home like I used to to download the episodes and roll it for two days straight.
