There was a brief spell in the early '90s before IDM properly existed when people used a variety of terms such as "braindance" and "progressive techno" to describe the first leftfield and non-dancefloor stuff that was emerging. Other than that, "progressive techno" does not exist and has never existed. Prog-tech is a different kettle of fish entirely.

So tech house isn't house with techno influences? I was under the belief that Tech was just short for techno.

Not anymore, just as progressive house isn't progressive anymore. Tech is just a sound now, it has almost nothing to do with techno, like most dubstep (even what we call "real" dubstep) doesn't have any dub in it. When I talk about "techy prog", I do not mean progressive house with techno sounds, I mean prog with white noise sweeps, clicky percussion, 128bpm etc. Progressive house always had techno influences.

Examples! I remember when we talked about progressive house a while back, me asking for advice about tracks that sounded like:
Is tech-progressive stuff like Sasha's "Who Killed Sparky"?
