Circus in Hollywood has trance almost every Saturday.

Insomniac has some Friday night trance events coming up at The Exchange downtown.

Once or twice every couple of months, Avalon in Hollywood will have a major trance DJ on a Saturday night.

It's rare to have a weekend without a trance DJ somewhere in town.

Agreed. Also, the crowd in LA really pays attention to the DJ's. When Mat Zo closed at Circus for the first time, the place was packed (and I mean wall to wall packed, big room open) all the way up until his set ended at 3:30am.

I also agree that it can be a little hit or miss though, sometimes a Trance DJ that you know really well (but isn't in the Top 20) comes by and the crowd is small but the music is big. When Genix came to Circus the first time, he blew everybody away who was there. Most everyone else told me "I wish I had gone that night, but I hadn't heard of him."

Yeah, so even DJ's who have regular residencies in the UK and draw massive crowds at, well, massives may not pack the floor here in LA...but sometimes they do. I'm expecting a huge turnout for the Trance Energy White Party at Circus, the lineup is just right for me. Plus, it really throws a finger at Energy: The Network, if you know what I mean!

Now, look for more posts that say how much better House music is, that's just the way this place works. Kind of like the Dems and Republicans, we can disagree all the time but nothing ever really comes of it...

I like trance, house, techno.

to answer this question, instead of saying who or what event is better, lets just look at the number of events in clubs.

Ranking
1) Dubstep / Commercial House / Mashup / Electro - now played on weekends at most clubs in Hollywood. The music you hear are usually remixes and mashups of Top 100 ITunes and Billboard Tracks with a lot of vocals
2) House - At an given night, Monday to Sunday, there is at least one House night. On weekends, there are at least 5 legit nights just in Hollywood area on a Friday and 5 on a Saturday. For example, on Fridays, there is nightshift, steady, vanguard, the afterhours druggie crowd, woogie nights and even INCOGNITO on the occasion we go more tech house. That doesnt even count the undergrounds like Strange Delights, etc.
3) Trance - there is Sat at Circus as far as I know
4) Techno - other than Droid and INCOGNITO, I think this is the most niche of genres.

Having said that, IMO, not because of the genre, but because of their brand names and since they were the original Superstar DJs who mostly plays trance and who the mass market knows, its trance that rules. I mean even Kaskade or Richie Hawtin, cant compare to the popularity of Tiesto, Oakenfold, AvB, Ferry Corsten in my opinion.

of course, i may not know some events happening out there, this is just based on my personal experience and opinion

the big name dj's will draw people.
Fact filled Example:

above and beyond tends to sell out all their events and bring out the scalpers.
SF charges an arm and a leg for their shows.(ruby skye)
LA charges an arm and a leg for their shows.(palladium)
SD charges peanuts and crackers for their shows. (fluxx)

which i find odd since fluxx is the smallest of the 3 venues. sure they usually play SD on a thursday, but $10 as opposed to $35 to start is quite a deal. Plus the girls who go to shows in SD are way hotter than the ones in LA and SF.

You forgot to mention that Ruby skye charges an arm and a leg for shows with almost no production whatsoever
