re: bpm. i usually like to drag tracks down as there is a grooviness in some tracks when slowed down. but recently i did an experiment where i tagged every file with the bpm and sorted the files by bpm, and mixed files in the same range, and now i never want to go back to the old way. im hooked. its so much less stressful, less unpredictable, energy level more consistent. |
I've always done that, and now Beatport offer keys I've started keying all my tracks too. It does make mixing so much less stressful. I would never dare play an unplanned set before because I was terrified I wouldn't be able to find a suitable track in key before the current track ran out. Now I know exactly what tracks I can use, and if I don't have anything suitable I know what to buy. For me, the holy grail of DJing is to find a track at every BPM range and every key for every job, so I can always select a filler, an anthem, a builder, etc.
