I can honestly say that my iPad 2 has been one of the best purchases I've ever made. I travel a lot and use it constantly, everything from attending WebEx conferences to reading The Financial Times. It's small, light and you don't even need to take it out of your laptop bag when going through airport security
The device is amazing, aesthetically pleasing, great GUI, bla, bla, bla..... but it's really the available apps which allow you to tailer the iPad to your needs. Which in my opinion, is what you need to look at before making a purchase. The lack of apps at the time was the reason I never purchased a first generation iPad.
In summary, my iPad has sizeable folders for....
- Plenty of music apps, which I use for production and DJ'ing (Touchable, TouchOSC, Korg iElectribe, Omni TR, MOOG apps etc).
- Apps for most reputable news sources (Financial Times, Bloomberg, BBC, The Times, Sky News, The Economist....).
- A couple of commercial trading applications/market monitoring apps (CMC Markets, Bloomberg, Marketboard, NetDaniaFX).
- TV apps (BBC iPlayer, SKy News and other terrestrial TV channel 'catch up' apps).
- Shopping apps, for when I'm too lazy to use the normal internet (ASOS, Amazon, Tesco, Next).
I also have a few standard games like Angry Birds and stuff, but to be honest, I never use my iPad for gaming.
I'm sure that anyone else who owns one, will agree that it's a brilliant piece of kit.
Oh! It's also great for allowing you to watch movies/TV shows when your away with work somewhere and you end up eating alone in a restaurant.
I end up doing this far too often.
