and the 701s have a detachable cable no ? I would go with the Q 701. I think they come in like bright yellow. Then you can be like Quincy Jones. Or Dre's cans.

No, the 701 cable is not detachable.

Beats? Really? Last time I attempted to mix on the Studios, everything turned out horrid. I might try the upcoming Pros, but for $450...damn.

And I'm really anal about organization and color selection, so having a green tone on my headphones would throw off my theme of white/black/red.

Nah, I'm shooting for these cans.

But really, I've decided on 701/702, so I appreciate the help...I have to choose one or the other now.

my gripe was with the flatness, these are not "flat as a board", you'll be really hard pressed to find super flat headphones, even different models like beyerdynamics are not that super flat but whatever. dont get me wrong i like the akgs, they reveal a lot of sonic detail but i wouldnt rely on them as a final mix, and atleast test it on some speaker systems.

have you ever owned the k240? believe what you like man, but i have them and i speak from experience, didnt belive it till i heard them either but it takes alot of burn in to get their character to really sit tight. they arent the studio standard for 30+ years for no reason.

I own a pair. They are cheaper it seems than the 701s. I also have the k171's which are fine for close ended recording type phones but they are a little small.

K240 MKII or K240 Studio?

i own the K240 Studio - the MKII is supposed to be the exact same headphone just with a different color scheme and extra ear pads + cable, though i havent heard them myself so i cant judge them.

and the K271 is supposed to be the closed back equivalent of the K240 but with the obvious flaws of closed back design, especially in the bass response accuracy. i havent heard these either, so i cant really say for sure how much they resemble the k240. but a closed headphone vs a semi-open headphone is a no-brainer if you're trying to do any serious mixing in headphones for accurate results.

a member that used to frequent here named "Alan M" used the k240 solely to produce a track that was played out by ferry corsten all over the world.

I'm not a huge fan of the gold. I'm liking the MKIIs a lot better. I'll have to check this out at my store...if they have them on display...
