Clickless pitch is fantastic. On my old decks (not technics, admittedly), the difference between having the pitch at 0 and just outside the groove must have been about 1/2%, which is far too much to be mixing in that area. Raising the pitch 1.5% wouldn't really help if you were then mixing a record that was 1.4% slower - it's annoying to have to adjust the pitch of the record that's playing.

Not having hinges can't be too much bother as I'm not sure I know anyone who uses them anyway.

These decks are going to last you for years and years, so there's no reason not to get the best while you have the chance. Plus, they have cartridge holders, which cancels out some of the cost (probably not much though admittedly)

I have the Mk3ds... Nothing big, not to me at least. My causin has the Mk2s from like 198X, old as hell, but they play the same.
Is it worth the money? Hell no, because u can get the Mk2s new for 399.95, so why pay an extra 100-150 bucks?
One other feature that the Mk3ds have:
Refined pwr switch: Thats actually the only thing my causin complimented on my decks when he tried them. He told me that he accidently cut off the pwr on his decks when playing live, cause on the Mk2s the pwr switch is bulkier or sticks out more.
One thing that I dont like about the Mk3ds is the no hinge dust cover. What I dont like is the fact that if you want to move your decks, you gotta be careful that the dust cover does not slide off or scratch the paint on the deck, because its hingeless and not locked down. If i have to move them, i have to lock the tonearm and move the dust covers seperately.
As far as the pitch button switch, i am dissapointed as it does not offer anything special. I first started with some beat up 1200 Mk2s and I liked the quartz lock.
Dont get me wrong, I love my decks, I am not badmouthing them. However, in reference to your question: is it worth it? I say no, just get the Mk2s, cause in the end, you get the same result: a solid turntable to last almost a life time.

Yeah I got my M3Ds for 410 at an electronics store believe or not. But the only thing is that these fucking table are the same damn ones as the MK2s. Seriously like you can turn the MK2 into a 3D if you wanted to. With all the clickless bullshit. It doesn't bother either way.

i don't understand where people get all these names for m3d's

like mk3's...mk3d's, etc. etc.hahaha

[disregard this comment if in other countries they are called something other than mk2's and m3d's ]

i love my m3d's...
people complaining about the hingless dustcover
im more than positive you can buy the hinges and put them on yourself
if you notice on the back of your tables where the hinges should be...there are two screw holes and the rubber piece on the dustcover where the hinges should go is removable (or so it looks) and looks to be indented so a hinge can be placed on it

im just not sure where you can buy hinges

There is a place on the net that sells parts for Technics, so you could prob get them from there.

I was going to reply to this thread, but seeing as I forgot the URL of the place I thought it was a bit pointless.

Oh... wait a second, I just did...

Here there is not much price difference between the Mk3's and MK2's.

Take a look for yourself

ok ive had old mark2s and bought brand new mark3s i have to say for the small price differance (not more than 150) its definitly worth it the clickless pitch didnt bother me that much with the mark3s but it is nice to have and the non hinged
dust covers just rock. :P for the price you may as well get the latest model with the latest parts etc... circtry...
