I have the Mk3ds... Nothing big, not to me at least. My causin has the Mk2s from like 198X, old as hell, but they play the same.
Is it worth the money? Hell no, because u can get the Mk2s new for 399.95, so why pay an extra 100-150 bucks?
One other feature that the Mk3ds have:
Refined pwr switch: Thats actually the only thing my causin complimented on my decks when he tried them. He told me that he accidently cut off the pwr on his decks when playing live, cause on the Mk2s the pwr switch is bulkier or sticks out more.
One thing that I dont like about the Mk3ds is the no hinge dust cover. What I dont like is the fact that if you want to move your decks, you gotta be careful that the dust cover does not slide off or scratch the paint on the deck, because its hingeless and not locked down. If i have to move them, i have to lock the tonearm and move the dust covers seperately.
As far as the pitch button switch, i am dissapointed as it does not offer anything special. I first started with some beat up 1200 Mk2s and I liked the quartz lock.
Dont get me wrong, I love my decks, I am not badmouthing them. However, in reference to your question: is it worth it? I say no, just get the Mk2s, cause in the end, you get the same result: a solid turntable to last almost a life time.
