Brian Eno - An Ending (Ascent). (-> 1983!)

It brings tears to my eyes. So beautiful. So lush. Quiet and cerebral. Haunting. Ambient at its best.

I know they're not based on trance songs, but I would suggest you have a listen to the Cafe del Mar compliations, volumen 1 to 9.

My favourite chillout song would have to be a track off volumen ocho called Scripture - Apache. The acoustic guitar line in this piece is just so blissfully serene and the Gregorian monk chant just compliments it so well.
