Changed it? They're two completely different songs. Similar sounds - yes, but there ends the similarity. Keep working on the first one. Don't abandon this one, either.

Who's the audience you want for this? I'm not really sure where you want to take this (these) tunes and I don't want to tell you to work on your rhythm section because it's got this crowded dark-room vibe when you only really want the guy on the bus to be bobbing his head on his morning commute.

Whether you are a DJ or a student of this exciting format of music, a list of top trance tracks can come in quite handy. this is a nice track. I really like it.

I actually don't have the first anymore. I've been using this piece as a kind of "experimentation ground" for Ableton and production in general. I really need to wrap this up and move onto something else though, I think.

I'm not really going for an audience at all, at least it wasn't something I was consciously thinking about while putting this together.

While I completely understand needing to move on, I highly recommend not to ever make such drastic changes without a back-up again, and get used to saving source files in iterations. From start to finish, I usually wind up with between five and eight source files for each song. Personally, I'm predicting in a year, you're going to hear the tune you abandoned in that first version and have some regret about not seeing that through to completion. It was seriously that good and I think it's a casualty of your temporarily lost perspective. Fortunately, creativity isn't a limited resource and I'm certain you'll be coming up with more cool shit.

If you're getting really tired of this tune and feel like you have to wrap it up so you can move onto something else, put it away and actually work on something else, for a while. I've got three songs going at a time and I rotate from one to the other, depending on where my attention is drawn. When I'm stuck on one, completely out of ideas to add to it, I open another file and am sometimes surprised at the headway I'm able to make on the second tune. The last two completed songs I put on soundcloud were finished that way.

I can tell you I wanted to hear a little more percussion (both progression and complexity) and that the kick pattern was a little too sparse. The kick on the first was a little better than the kick on the second. More progression overall seems called for, as well, but I wouldn't discard what you have down, already.

That's just judging by what I want to hear in your tracks and I'm not super-imposing some mind for a venue/audience sort of thinking on my opinion. Given my preferences, it would be something I could both dance or chill out to though. It's difficult to hear everything going on in the mix, via soundcloud, but overall, it sounded fairly clean. Put this tune down and on the back-burner. Start something new. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more.

Really good advice there. I know I personally hit walls creatively with some tracks, put them down, then sometimes later an idea just clicks in my head and I can come back and make progress. I also usually have 3-4 tracks I'm working on at once and I find trying to be diverse keeps things fresh and keeps me motivated.
That said I've also had quite few tracks that I've completely abandoned but mostly because they were crap.

Some really great advice that I completely understand. Thanks guys.

The one thing i would say is that the hissing sounds to me did not work with the other elements in the track. Additionally, I feel that it was building up to point in which I was expecting a better kick and more rhythm to come in but it never did. It feels very much like you are trying to do an underworld type song, and to me its a great start, but what you are missing is a signature kick or rhythm to get everyone moving. Great start though!
