I think the barometer for RP's line of thinking will be if 2012 brings recovery and then price inflation from the Fed actions last year. I've read Austrian economists who think that's what we have in store. Of course I like RP just on foreign policy alone; he seems to be the only republican not chomping at the bit to start another 10 year war with Iran.

And supporting Obama is out of the question after NDAA.

At the very least, I enjoy RP's voice of dissent in what otherwise is an extremely underwhelming republican field.

Well the business cycle theory has a place at the table of trying to figure out complex macro problems, no? And confirmation bias be damned I like reading voices that are consistently anti-war, anti-bailout, anti-moral hazard.

anyways I'll leave it at "I enjoy RP's voice of dissent in an extremely unimpressive republican field"

What the Hayek are you laughing at?

And, no, I'm not defending Fred. I'm tolerant, not clueless

Oh, I’m not doubting the previous contributions in the field of economics, just that their anti-empirical platform leaves a lot to be desired.

ehh a fair point... it has something to do with the belief that people act individually, unpredictably, not as groups but as individuals, either rationally or irrationally. Past trends don't necessarily indicate, or even have bearing on future actions... I've kinda come to feel that Austrian schoolers don't reject empirical data, they just don't believe that we can use it to build mathematical models to predict the future.

something about how there's no such thing as a controlled experiment when dealing with people's behavior...? I think??
