that's not true... it's a deduction, not a credit. without getting all tax-man on you, if he's paying US taxes, it would lead to a maximum of $350k in savings from a $1mil donation. Dunno how it works in Sweden and I'm sure it's all very complicated but long story short, he didn't need to do this. At the end of the day, hating on someone for donating money to charity is a bit absurd in my opinion.
