Hardly any homeless people here. Sometimes get aboriginal people asking for booze money in the Valley area, but that's about it.

I knew a street beggar. She was a young woman, in her early 20's. Had a dog, played guitar & would basically street beg in different parts of the country. She made a minimum $100 per day & most days made more. She would take her money & spend it on drugs & booze.

This was quite popular by the Warsaw Central Train station in Poland a few years back. They cops cracked down on that shit though.

I picked up this working girl, who's hooked on smack. Hustles and scores. "That's all I do," she says.

They're quite common (and hated) here in Brazil, and they even think of it as a profession (we call them "flanelinhas" - something like "flannelies" because of the piece of cloth they usually carry around with them). Of course, it's illegal and it can be thought of as "extortion" depending on how pushy they are (trust me, some get downright offended if you don't give them money because "they're working"), but given the amount of problems we need to sort out, I can't see our government tackling this issue any time soon.
I fucking hate that shit.

Sadly, no. Looks like I got there the day it started and left the day after it ended.

In Barbados, this was a big problem before the government cracked down on it. Variance was that you'd get a guy coming up to your car while you were stopped at an intersection, with a bucket of dirty water and some wadded paper towel in one hand, and a hammer in the other. Sure you can sort out the rest from there...

The Philippines ranges from standard street scammers ("boss, boss, you need taxi?") to very legitimate hard-up - was the first time I saw multiple beggars sans limbs, children out panning at three in the morning, etc.

If I had to make a sweeping generalisation (which I will), Toronto's panhandlers are largely white, male, middle-age and most often mentally ill. Also a large aboriginal street population in the downtown core.

I'm sorry but the politically correct term is urban campers...not homeless people.

that's because Toronto gave the rest of them one way bus tickets to Vancouver

Mostly Romanian older women who have their territories and will threaten other beggars who sit on the same street. Most likely "professionals", as they arrive during spring and then leave in the fall. They're not in the streets at night, so you kinda know they're fakers.
