... huh? If you're really saying that, I don't think you've ever understood my stance regarding religion: I'm an atheist (who works with science, no less!), the only strained relationships I have in my life all derive from failed attempts to convert me, and I dread to think I may have to step inside a church whenever there's a funeral or something similar. How on Earth could I ever perform a "never-ending fellatio of religion"? It just doesn't add up!
I'm an empiricist, pure and simple, and I'm sure we should knock religion the same way we criticise science, politics, and huge breasts. That is, by shaking it repeatedly and seeing if its firm: even if most religious ideas regarding the social and the natural world turn out to be bollocks (and they might well be), we should carefully analyse all of its premises before we pass a harsher judgment - can it really be the case that nothing a religion says can be useful? Given the history of science, that's highly unlikely. Hell, while we're at it, analyse religious believers as well as their beliefs! Let's see why so many people find it so appealing! This, is the proper scientists behave, reason why I've been trying to tell Saganite fanboys to pipe the hell down and stop acting as irrationally as religious zealots - which only makes science look bad. Dismissing bad ideas outright just because it's in a supposedly bad framework is the best way to have bad ideas come back with a revenge... and, really, we've had enough of that already.
