I'm a big fan of analog sounds. In fact, that's what I look for in a good synth. But what got me about Gladiator was its clarity and its ease of use. I also think its feature rich. Gladiator sterile??? Sorry, guys, but I totally disagree. If there's one thing that it's NOT, it's sterile IMO. HCM is designed to get those oscillators moving and it's actually pretty easy to create dynamic patches using just the HCM and no further modulation. Then you tack on all the modulation capabilities and it will become less sterile than most synths.

Digital, yeah, I agree with that. It does has a tendency to get metallic sounding.

As for ElectraX, I have that as well and it's the synth that I want to love, but rarely use. Those 4 synth engines will do some crazy stuff, but I find the synth in general to be overkill for most usable purposes. The characteristic 3-4 layered sounds that comprise most of the presets sound cool on their own, but most are way too huge to fit into any reasonable mix IME. Yet, if I'm going to create a simpler patch, I just find it easier to do with my Virus or DUNE, Gladiator, Z3TA, Omni, etc. Feels sorta like I bought a Hummer with every available add-on utility and sport package just to drive to the office and back.

Yeah, the metallic ting is pretty noticeable. It gets filtered out OK, but obviously that's no good for sounds that aren't heavily low-passed. I'm pretty sure that Markus and Baastian are the two guys wrote Vanguard when they were at reFX, weren't they? Vanguard has a similar metallic sound to it.

I'm selling my DCAM synthsquad as well as my DIVA and some other goodies.
Going back to a full OTB setup. want something exclusive again.

For me a sort of sherbert talcum powder coating is inherent in all the samples that make up the sounds.

I find it mainly unconvincing for edm but as RYAN states it is pretty easy to use.

RAPHIE - that guy from SHM who's moved to LA said he was setting up OTB in order to 'set his sound apart from the million bedroom producers'. I'm pretty jealous of your setup.

It strikes me now that I think I'd like otb so as I could have several instruments all at once being manipualted so as every sound is always evolving. With my own mainly ITB setup I cant do this properly even with 4 i7's as it just ends up siezing if I push it to the areas I want to go so I always have to compromise - for example I have to make an evolving DCAM sound with loads of automation and get it then frozen before I can move onto say the bass and later I realise I would have done the automation differently but I'm now too boxed in and unfreezing tracks does not work well in Cubase 5 as certain automated perameters are somehow 'fogotton' so I risk messing things up badly by unfreezing tracks.

I like G2 for it's complexity of patch use, however, everything seems to sound so metallic. It's quite easy to create patches for once you get everything going.

I've gotten into techno the last few months and tried making some tracks and I have to say I love working in this style, and I found it just as challenging as other styles, particulary as I found the best techno guys are really superb as sonic artisans - just listen very carefully to the quality of each sound here for example (not everyone likes this shit but for me as a life long synth lover it just speaks to me) plus the groove for me is top draw although some have said to me it has no groove, it's just quantised machine shit;
