does 'common sense' dictate that you should tip 20% on alcohol? if that's the case why not just charge 20% extra for the booze on the menu??? i'm not saying this as somebody who doesn't tip (buck a beer, and i don't usually drink much else at bars) but rather as somebody who just DOESN'T GET IT. If you get a table and spend say 300 dollars on a bottle what are you paying the extra 60 dollar for? Having the bottle opened and brought over with ice? Is that worth 60 dollars?

Don't say 'if you can afford the bottle then you can afford the tip' because that's bull shit - just charge 360 instead of 300 on the menu. Tipping shouldn't be mandatory, and especially not over 10% (again, at restaurants I rarely tip <15% but I don't see it at bars - they don't do dick in most cases to deserve the tip).
