don't worry guys. we have a subway who will subway the whole city with subways. subways.

‘It’s all about subways,’ Rob Ford tells City Hall scrum

The power struggle over what transit to build in Toronto continues at City Hall, with Mayor Rob Ford telling reporters, at his weekly weigh-in: “It’s all about subways.” An excerpt of the scrum follows.

Reporter: Mr. Mayor, some people at 11 o’clock are discussing the legal standard of scrapping Transit City and they are saying you may have overstepped your boundaries. What do you say?

Mayor: I didn’t overstep my boundaries, I did what the taxpayers want. They want subways, that’s it. They don’t want streetcars. I was out in Scarborough over the weekend, people came up to me and said, they want subways. That’s it.

Reporter: Is there any wiggle room for you on this issue?

Mayor: It’s the taxpayers. The taxpayers want…I was elected on subways, they want subways, I was out on Saturday, people want subways. That’s it.

Reporter: Do you think you’ll win this vote? It doesn’t seem like you have the votes.

Mayor: It’s all subways. It’s all about subways.

Reporter: What are you going to do though if council votes against that?

Mayor: All about subways. So, it’s the taxpayers that elected me to get the subways in and that’s what we’re going to do.

Reporter: So, you think that gives you authority to, if council votes against that.

Mayor: It’s like winning an election. So if they voted me in, that means [stutters a bit] I don’t win an election? It doesn’t make sense.

blame kotsy!

anyway, people who complain about the ttc who then get told to buy a car always responds with "have you seen rush hour traffic?"
im pretty sure public transit gets affected by rush hour traffic as well. also, if you own a car you can do things on your own schedule. forget about worrying when the bus or subway stops working for the night.

and youcan travel directly to your destination! omg what a great idea!

You can't go to work on your own schedule.

+1

after walking to work for 3 years it's a bit sad that I had to move a bit north but yet no complains - 6 buses going into Eg station and a 10 min subway ride into the office

I ALWAYS make sure I live in a good proximity of my work

Can't blame him, Subway is the way to go if you're doing a weight loss campaign:

Even though i drive, I def support Rob Ford on subways. Plan to build streetcars in Toronto was a shame and a big fail in the first place for a city of such size, concentration and economic clout. One of the usual TTC's band-aid solutions not abit concerned with future of this city. Streetcars is a short term fix that will create more problems in the long run. Capacity wise, street congestion wise, future development of economic activity etc. Subway is a more forward looking solution, that will create higher growth potential in the areas it is built and promote long term development.

I dunno if I'm completely sold on the idea of subways being everywhere. Just seems like a big black hole for money.
