That one track for 2 hour comment, Luciano does it to an an extent. But 1 track for 2 hours is more along the lines of 1 track (bassline) up to 10-15 min. Re-introduced later on in the set again for a 10min block and the same thing occurring with a few more 'samples' he's decided to loop from various tracks. It works quite well in my opinion, especially on a night out when you might not be as prone to picking out the times he/she's looping the same thing over and over.

Nothing worse than having a bunch of chin strokers on the dance floor, but that's for another thread altogether.

I haven't followed him for a long time nor even know if he is still doing it anymore, but if you want to learn how to open properly I would highly suggest seeing Danny Howells during his marathon sets. I can remember many years back seeing him play 13+ hour sets from start to finish. You walk into an almost empty club and the headliner is essentially warming up. He plays slow and skillfully for so long that all of a sudden when he decides it's peak time the place starts going crazy without the punters realizing that the skull fuck time is here. A veritable collection of tracks spanning 20 years, nice and slow, unremarkable in themselves, but when built on well creates something I can only describe as that moment when you are about to go down on a roller coaster and your heart feels like it is in your throat. so smooth and well executed that even the hardest chin stroker has to appreciate the artistry behind the planning and execution.

while not always his biggest fan, in 02 or 03 I saw tenaglia play for 20 hours straight... I know he played longer but I had to go home. pretty insane, but the drugs were also better then

What if I had made a remix of one of the headliners songs. Would it be kosher to play that?

you have plenty chances to do it, if you are playing after him might not be a bad idea though, specially because people will recognize the track and would search for that remix when they come back home.

I can recall an opening DJ (Greg Gow, whom I thought would know better) dropped this 15 mins before Joris took the stage for his first ever Toronto appearance 3 years ago. Voorn was none too pleased.



Joris played it as well a couple hours into his own set.

Really? I'm surprised, I thought Greg Gow was a veteran of the scene, this sort of thing should be far below him. He should have known that track is a staple of Joris Voorn's sets. Wow that's pretty shocking.
