I own one, love it. Great sound and feel. And it does one thing really, really well: mix. No need to all the gizmos, I use Traktor and all of those gizmos are in the software, so I don't want a "all in one" mixer.

A couple things to note:

The mixer in the first photo is a 2016. The original.

The current model is the 2016s. Prior to that was the 2016a. The only difference between the 2016a and 2016s is the "a" had an external power brick, the "s" is internal (s is for "supply").

Now, the 2016 original and 2016a/s are a little different. The main ones are: Gain structure is a bit different (2016 original is a little easier to overdrive), the original has little nubs on the knobs, and the original doesn't have buttons to cue each channel (it has a knob on the right to cue one channel at a time).

A little bit of fun: The original mixer of this type was the Bozak, then the Urei 1620. Then rane and crest (and maybe someone else) came out with sort of copies of the 1620 and moved the numbers around. Hence 2016.

Ryan, you gotta post up the pics for him or at least link the page in the pics of DJ setups thread. Your home booth is wicked.

I have to say, the 2016 is one of the best mixers ever made.

I have to admit I winced when I saw it mentioned in the same thread as a DJM2000 which is an utter piece of garbage compared to a serious mixer like the rane.

tomorrow i'll deal with it, i'll post my impressions, it looks sweet but i don't like them very much i've a behringer UB1202FX which isn't surely as good but i prefer faders all the way.

I prefer DJM1000 over 2000, a thousand times but Pioneer stuff isn't that bad, there are better mixers for less price but given the chance i prefer something i already know than something a bit obscure.

^^' well i've to say that apart from the rotary thing that i still don't like it is a nice mixer, the eqs are precise and never red lined the mixer, the gain knobs of every channel were a bit strong, it was difficult to move them and i'd had wish that the eqs were bigger to fit my king size hands but the sound that came from the booth was brilliant and i felt the rumbling in my feets, definitely better built than pioneer's.

what's wrong with having no faders?

rotary is super smoothness, give it some time you'll learn to love it soon enough.

As Eddie suggested there are several things going on, the crossfader is set to the left, channel 1 and 2 are connected to a computer, the rest are cdjs. I even turned it to the right side for a second to see if music stopped but nothing happened.

That's because they must have all the channels set to "post" meaning nothing is going through the crossfader.

If you change the channels you want to mix with to either A or B (on those selector switches beneath the channels on the expansion unit) you can cut or fade any channel you want. Bear in mind you'll need to set the crossfader contour to the sharp shelf to scratch with, and leave it in the middle if you're bringing tracks in with the rotaries.

well i may consider changing it next time but scratch is not something i usually do so i prefer not to touch anything to avoid bigger problems.
