i'm really impressed by this piece man. there's a slight busyness (alot going on at once, alot of elements) when the main bit of the mix kicks in after the breakdown. that main section is not drawn out enough -- you got nice melody and all that but it disappears so fast. only part i didn't like was the breakdown itself, although i see what you tried to do: multiple little tricks to make us expect a drop that doesn't come, pulling back a few times until it DROPS. it's too much man, feels kinda convoluted.
i also listened to "Retrieval 1", "One More Twip", and "Chrome Shift" -- holy shit man, you got some heavy compositional skill, especially in polyphony and rhythm. very wide variety of sound. the latter especially sounds like a vibe Russians have been very into for the last 10 years or so. (mixing has to improve, but i'm the wrong person to offer concrete advice about that.) |
This kind of thorough, balanced feedback makes it feel worthwhile posting music in this place, I'm a lot happier with the response and comments I'm getting from you guys here than what little I've had on soundcloud, so thanks again to you all.
You've given me some good thoughts here I can work with poz, so I'll certainly be looking at improving the structure of my breakdowns with future works. I guess I can also say that the thing I find hardest dealing with or working towards is drawing out the arrangement melodically, I'm currently working on another house tune, playing with some drawn out arrangement ideas as I can certainly see where you're coming from with these comments.
Thanks for checking out my other works, yea I try to keep a few projects on the go at the same time time and try to be somewhat diverse as it keeps things interesting, keeps me motivated and the ideas flowing. I don't take everything I do with music too seriously but I have some projects where I do. I just think I'll be happy if I can keep improving as consistently as I have say over the last 12 months.
