You don't NEED to. However, with the appropriate setting it will accentuate even more the imaginary space of the reverb.
It's the essence of trance, enhance the perception of an imaginary space.

Trance without reverb is like rock guitars without distorsion.

No pad there. Just a pluk with laods of reverb and delay. if you hear the very first split second of the exctasy clip, u will notice the wet stuff is not there yet, thats because there is like a 30ms predelay on the reverb. hope this helps a bit!

and to compress the verb, all you have to day is place the compressor before the reverb on the channel?
