I'm with you on that. I can't stand the percussion intro for 60+ seconds. Every time I show a track to somebody they get annoyed right from the get go since nothing happens. I don't even enjoy listening to full tracks anymore for the same reason. There is no way people will get the exposure they want if they keep doing this.
That is because the tracks you are listening to are meant to be mixed in a DJ set. it is laughable that you think people will not get exposure just because of an intro, there is much more to it mate.

More melodic / interesting intros used to be more common I think:

i am experimenting with this always, always keeping in mind the 4/4 signature but it really feels awkward if you add things at 4 bars. About intros, they suck the radio edits are totally understandable unless you've an iphone or an mp3 that gives you the possibility to quickly skip. There are intros and intros though some songs are interesting from the very beginning, i particuarly hate for djing that intros that start without a 4/4 hit or simply without a kick.

How about we just stop focusing on templates, structures and rules altogether, and remember that we should be writing original songs that we can do whatever the hell we want with.

It's funny when people try to revolt against rules they don't understand.

I dunno, the rule "introduce a new thing every eight bars" is pretty easy to understand.

Avicii's intros & outros suck mountains. The structure of a track is one of the hardest parts to change i think, big changes would sound strange for most people.

I tried adding interst from the off and more than once a label said they would only take the track if I added a dj freindly intro.
I'm all for tracks with interest from the off.
Some tracks will lend themselves to new things added every 4 bars to, but other tracks I think would sound cluttered and hectic with such a structure.
