I think dubstep really sucks. I sense no passion or any kind of emotional output. I feel its a selfish genre that does not really give a fuck about anything real, and I think most dubstep djs and producers are posers, and the only thing dubstep producers try to achieve are "Super cool sounds" pointless. And like mark said, its unnatural to dance too. BOOM...BOOM KAAH......BOOOM......BOOM KAH.... zzzzzzz.

This i agree with. We mustn't forget that even the most celebrated genres of today also came from rather humble beginnings.

Regardless, i'm quite neutral too the stuff. It's quite popular among some of the younger folks i go out with.

I've even accidentally been to a gig of sorts. It was like an open drive-in show in the middle of the city. And at some point a polish DJ showed up and started playing wubstep. At first i was appalled and wanted to leave. But we decided to stay, have a seat and indulge in some drinks and herbsmoke. After a while i started to get sucked in, their was something about that music. Apart from the the DJ actually mixing intelligently, For once it started to feel like there was more to it. It does a very decent job at the sort of raw visceral bass and strobes experience hard dance is also known for, whilst still maintaining a sense of abstract intrigue with it's dubby components.

I think this mix for instance is quite nifty and complements my point well:

A shocking style of dance music for me, I just cant get into it at all, dont get me wrong, im not knocking the people that do 'get' it but it just doesnt go anywhere for me. It bumbles around then drops a distorted bass line that I just dont get, and whats with all the angst driven screetching?! It sort of reminds me of the early drum n bass that we used to go out to in the mid/late 90's basswise but that had a beat that you could dance to and was a quality music to go out and 'ave it to on the floor!

Each to their own though i suppose, people hated hardcore, drum n bass, trance and hard house when those scenes were massive but we didnt care then so.... But winning grammys for it... come on!
