I'd agree that it's probably not compression that you're looking for but saturation. Saturn is good because it's multiband so you don't have to saturate the very low end, which can muddy things up.

As for compressors, I'd take a look at H-Comp from Waves as it just does things a little differently and bites quite hard. It's also very much geared towards teh dance market with an extra transient shaping knob and release that can be synced to track tempo or fractions of.

It's also on sale for $99 with H-Delay (which is also very good) in March, so I'd grab that anyway if I were you.

Oh, and if you have T-Racks, do you have the Pultec emilation in there? That can do magical things with low end as well.

I'm really for the less is more aproach
Change source, use volume, maybe a bit of compression and very little eq to make it fit in the mix. The only thing more processing does is smearing the sound, creating "rich" dynamics/harmonics, which imho do not increase presence but just smear the whole mix. The problem nowadays is that people think having a patch that works is "wrong" and you need to do at least stack 5 processings op top to make it pro.
Your "presence" is the EQ, filters, chorus etc options in your synth. Exhaust them first before slapping anything on top. Just my 2cts... Just keeping on mangling is so 2012.

There was a plugin from wave alchemy used by Sean Tyas and others for the bass i've heard wonders about it i remember searching for it but was a bit pricey and i didn't get it finally. It is what you are searching for, it adds color and dynamics to the bass.

Wave Alchemy doesn't make any plugins that I'm aware of. Are you thinking of Wave Arts? Tube Saturator???

It's nice, but FF Saturn is much better IMO.

Melda Bundle.

Try washeshapers. They are so versatile. They can act as a compressor, add warmth, a bit crusher, distortion. The melda bundle is rather neat in that everything they do is multi band.

also, the recent abbey console clone from waves is great for distortion. Which they had a version that had a wet/dry ratio.

I spend time sometimes just using a basic synth sound and experimenting with plugins creating chains you can use later on. Sort of like making patches for your synth.

Basically just load up 10 or so plugins. And fuck around.

Just noticed this old thread came back to life.

In the end I went for R-Bass but the license and so on kept fucking about and I got sick of it, will not deal with WAVES again.

Have not bought any fx since then.
