I've got a pair of K240 MkII's recently and I am a fucking happy man. Brilliant, detailed, and easy going sound, that isn't pushy with the bass freqs. Quite comfy, too. The GQ factor is their only drawback. If you care about looking cool, these might not be the phones for you. Still, they sound a hell of a lot better than the Sony MDR 700s

i have 3 pairs of AKG's im turning into a fanboy, i need to break the cycle and try grado next. my friend says they're equal to the 271 in detail and space, and they're much cheaper.

+1

if i were the OP i get teh Q701 over the K550 though, if his enviroment tolerates open back.

the difference between the Q701 and the K701/2, is that the Q701 is more friendly to producing music, whilst the K701/2 are more for critical listneing.

if you look at their headphone graphs u will see the Q701 is a little sweeter to listen to in the mids and highs, with slightly more bass as well. its the headphone that is between the K240 and K701/2.

K240 is great though, especially for dance music me thinks and i LOVE mine. the problem i see the K701/2 having for dance music is i hear its bass light so its harder to determine how things will sound on a subwoofer, but Soundprank uses them almost exclusively, so it's not impossible. i would assume the Q701 irons that out a bit

Hey, how safe is it to buy AKG headphones from ebay? Amazon has some cheap at $279.99 (702s) but they won't ship to me. And they are like $550 locally.

I couldn't care less what they look like, I'm using them at home.

I'm actually tempted to replace the original 240S with a mkII now and use both the 240 and 702

Make sure that it's an authorized dealer, assuming that they're new. You might want to Google "fake AKGs" or something and find out what to watch for.

This is valid for the K240 as well.
But anyway I recognize they are "decent".

An amateur could accomplish a listenable mix with them.

Though I will repeat something I've been saying forever.

Headphones are important to a certain degree. After the threshold of decency is important to understand their translation of sound and adapt correctly your ear to them. And this is more delicate art than what it appears.
