No, you're completely right. Automation has been a pivotal thing since the industrial revolution - in fact, tools throughout history have largely had the effect of putting somebody out of work- large swaths of people who simply cannot adapt to the way such tools have changed their field of employment. As technology seemingly careens into every industry at a practically geometric rate, it will be more important than ever to preserve labour rights tempered with a technologically reactive government (lol!) that is run at the speed of corporations... lest people be shaken off almost entirely. Things will become very ugly if the human element is not at the forefront of the impending singularity, if you ask me.
