and i think you might get more customers if you set a fixed price.
pay what you think it's worth=i'm not super happy with this product but i cant be assed to work more on it
im not saying that's the case, it sounds awesome imo, but that's what youre signalling.

also listening while writing: JUMP! wohoo nice sound lacks a tiny bit of hi tho but im guessing thats YT's fault. omg is that trip to julich @ 2:40ish? MIDI PLX

edit: or is it the one after trip to julich on connected vol 1? not drunk at all so it's definitely not what's messing with my memory :P

edit 3 or 4: beta blocker??

I do the "pay what you want" for a lot of reasons.

The pad melody at 2:40 is from a Daniel Kandi track. I don't remember which one.

most people that can pay will. Those that won't would not of purchased it in the first place. So you get the money from those that can, and the popularity by those that won't. The best way is to suggest some prices, then a box that allows for a user to enter his price. As long as you make it a little bit of work to enter 0, most will just go with the base suggestion.

Literally dozens of reasons, I've given it lots of thought over the past few years since my patch bank project is very important to me.

I should write a more detailed response to this question and put it on my website, but probably my best reason is that I don't pay for a lot of the music software I use, so it would be a bit hypocritical of me to force others to pay for music "software" that I've created, wouldn't it? I won't put that reason in my "offical" writeup, though. hah.

Other than that, I get A LOT out of making these banks, probably more than anyone who uses them. I just genuanely enjoy making them and I learn an incredible amount. The prospect of making a few hundred $$ per patch bank I release is a nice excuse to drop $1000 on a new synth, play with it for a year, and then resell.

Lastly, I feel the "pay what you want" method is my version of open source software, which I'm a huge fan of.

Also a lot of what L4C said, but I can't ignore the fact that since I have all patch banks for hardware instruments, that means to use them, the purchaser would have needed to at least drop the initial investment of that instrument. Or stolen it. Probably the former.

What I should do is give two boxes "Buy for $25" or "Enter your own price". That'll come whenever I redesign the site. It's in desperate need of an redesign.
