Agreed. I see no problem with having some fun up there on the decks, the "scene" takes itself way too seriously sometimes. The risk, of course, is doing it too often or choosing the wrong song.

Those forces combine to create a soaking, boiling mudstorm on Valentine's Day.

Yeah, I think its one of those things you can only do once in awhile and it really does need to be a track that most people are going to know so they can share in the screaming and singing.

Can't say I'm surprised unfortunately. The part that really gets me down about this is that Dennis Ferrer and Mark Farina can play some stuff that is extremely commercial influenced. Check this out from Farina (everyone already knows about the commercial success of Ferrer so I don't think that I have to explain).

That doesn't seem very far from the commercial world and most of the stuff I've seen from him on youtube have been along similar lines. Pretty worrying stuff if this is stretching the underground boundaries. Imagine if Digweed or Sasha or Cox played one of these parties lol.

Haha if Sasha was asked to gig one of these and was asked to play "less housey" he'd probably laugh in their face and play whatever he wanted.

(I'd at least ensure something specific in my rider would say that the promoter or management of said venue is not allowed to dictate what I play or something to that effect). Otherwise why bring the dj there to begin with?

Damned bottle service "VIP" douches.

They didn't. He got paid and didn't have play anything he didn't want to.

In the end the booking agent for Marquee is the one to blame here. Know your customers and how to please them.

I saw Deep Dish drop White Stripes - Seven Nation Army (the orig mix)at Aria in Montreal and it blew the place up. It definitely can be done right, and can make for a great memorable experience.
