Mad For Brad's gay little contest

I hate remix contests with a passion. I remember back in February Beatport opened a remix competition for Steve Aoki's Ladi Dadi. Out of all the similar-sounding garbage I heard, the only track that I found amazing was Charles Deluxe's remix. He was on top of the votes. He had the most comments and most support.

I was sure he was going to win, because he really deserved it. His track stood out of everyone's else. Fast forward to the next day, and he was like below third place and didn't have the most votes. He didn't even get runner-up. Some horrible producer got it. You know who won the contest? Some Nordstrom something dude with a crappy dubstep remix that sounded like it was made by a n00b. Didn't sound punchy or clear at all. Sounded like he never mixed it, just used a multiband compressor and limiter and that's it.

That shitty track won, and got released, instead of Charles' amazing remix that is always playin' in my head. I don't even remember how the track that won sounded. Didn't mark me. This is why I hate the industry. You have ridiculous talent, here, and all over. Yet, it's always the crappy-sounding stuff that gets released. Stuff that needs talent to be made but doesn't sound great or different.

Maybe not for the mainstream, but edm-related, Sean Tyas comes to mind

Also, i take part in some contest because i think it´s FUN

some people made a name out of it but there are like 4 cases:

A) You won a shity contest, your prize is irrelevant in the end.
B) A serious contest, big label, known artist... something crappy and generic wins, nothing happens it's just another cookie cutter tune.
C) A serious contest aimed for amateur producers, a guy who usually gets some beatport top 100s on the given genre wins it, just another release for him. Nothing happens.
D) You win a contest by a serious label,somehow they for once pick the real piece of art, you are so fucking good that they notice instantly. Well it was gonna happen sooner or later.

So in conclussion: Contests are just a way to market tunes by the labels. Serious labels don't do it.

Don't pretend to be original or innovative. Check label's top 3 releases and copy their style which will happen to be the style of 90% of the releases of that genre. If you make something worthy you are proud of it... Congratulations you improved your game but you are not gonna see a release of it, instead some random noob that made a tune with nexus presets is going to grab your spot. This is pissing for the artists.

I definitely made some tunes for contests that were release worthy, in any case they were objectively better that what ended being released i wanted to be original and thats wrong don't pretend to change the industry, one thing is that if you go to a trance contest with an uk garage remix your chances are low and you can't really blame them but come on, why the winner and the 2 runner ups have either a supersaw or an anjuna pluck?¿

I made a decision about this i will only join a contest like this if i really like the track, probably i'd remix it anyway, or if it is a good vocal track, at this amateur level you rarely have the chance to touch professionally recorded vocals so this is a good starting point for a sucessful bootleg.

Free acapellas? Not that easy for amateur/un-established producers to get hold of half-decent ones.
