No it doesn't. Promoters, especially ones in far off places, can struggle to book a name that isn't as well known. When the results are released some people will be inclined to review the whole list, and this will increase market exposure.

Underground roots: those two DJs didn't play commercial shit. Them being a well known name isn't the same as commercial - in fact back in the day they would have been considered champions of the underground scene. Would J00F be classified as commercial if he won? I think not.

It maybe different in other cities but the average club goer here has no clue of the DJ Mag poll.

Paris Hilton winning will make no difference, in fact it would probably promote more cheese as she'd use it to market herself as a 'legit DJ in the eyes of club goers'.

I disagree. After her shambolic debut and especially if this campaign takes off (like counter on the site) it will discredit her. She's bound to chart anyway, given how many members she has on her fb page - this will give voice to people who say she's shit.

Going on tour with a band could be considered commercial, though it's subjective depending on the band, and the assessor's opinion of them.

Commercial to me is more about making songs with the intent of them having mass appeal. Particularly if that aim is reached through a divergence away from less main stream sound. EG Guetta being top DJ not for DJing, or for his underground productions, but his pop tracks.
A commercial song by a commercial artist could still be remixed in a non-commercial fashion. I don't recall any of his U2 remixes well enough to comment on which side they lie.
To say he was never a champion of the underground is ludicrous though - he was one of the pioneers of Trance, along with - if I remember correctly - Acid House.

Well, how exactly are you going to differentiate between the people who voted for Paris because they were her FB fans and the ones who voted for her in a silly attempt to make a "statement" about the poll itself? Does DJ Mag even release the raw numbers that would let you figure out what percentage of her votes were "spoof" votes?

Kind of my point in the last post. A track can have mass appeal, while staying true to an underground formula/style.
