Disco died down for a while, now it's back. Metal died for a while, now it's back. They both came back with the same purposes and the same intents, even though the sound and look was updated a little.

In the case of metal, you had a small set of diehard bands like Overkill and Savatage who continued to put out albums and kept their fans happy during the drought years. If trance really dies down, I'd like to see the same thing.

And the problem with this genre is, either it's HUGE or it's "dying". Not even the producers and DJs are loyal to it, and that sucks bigtime!

Cousin prog is distraght, but is just doing the same thing over and over again, its his way of dealing with the loss.

Sister Hardtrance is saddened, but is secretely loving all the extra attention that is being directed towards her.

Brother Breaks is angry and is currently dealing with the news by chopping up every beat that he can find.

NRG, is too young to even grasp what is going on.

Uncle cheeze does what he always does, gets drunk and passes out on top of aunt commercial.

lmao, nice one esp. the one about Brother Breaks

I don't know about dying. People have been saying that for a while, and although it does worry me, the feeling I get now is that trance is making a comeback. It may be a bit harder sometimes, but at least it hasn't been swallowed up by a surge of hard house clubs (which is what I was scared of last year when quite a few people that I know that used to love trance became hard house lovers.) Jules (for what his opinions worth!?) said he feels trance is making a comeback.

I hope that as long as big name DJs keep pulling in the crowds (e.g. PVD, Tiesto (waits to be flamed ), Armin, Ferry and the like) there will still be quality trance for devoted followers. I worry about the crowds, they gotta keep loving trance for trance to keep going! If things like Crasher going monthly help Crasher to retain its reputation as a bangin' superclub then so be it, sad as it is. If it stayed weekly and couldn't fill up I suppose in the end, it would get a slating. There are still DJs like these keeping trance (and trance-like tunage) alive because they have a passion for that kind of music. I just hope they don't ever lose it!

And that euro-cheese-shite that is getting trance a bad name shouldn't be allowed. Who likes that shit anyway? Ten year olds who haven't got over Steps splitting up thats who.

I totally agree with this. A couple of years ago the same thing happened to gabber/hardcore. At first it was underground, the next thing was the commercial 'happy' hardcore and then everyone said hardcore was dead. But it really wasn't, it just got back into the underground again. And look at hardcore now: next month there's another Thunderdome party (Thunderdome: A Decade). Same thing will happen to trance. In a year or two it'll be underground again. Right now you see that hardtrance and hardstyle are becoming more and more popular (and commercial). We'll just have to wait...

I don't think it's dying, I think it's evolving, if slowly, theres too many people using the same sounds, same beat patterns, same everything, we need people to experiment & not be afraid, but take this as my backing up...

1999 Atb got famous to a lot of us with his stuff, but almost everything he produced had the same pitchy thing used in it, and it became boring & shit, so people hated him

We don't need to lose our origins, but we do need to bring in new sounds, and not be afraid to, trance will never die, it has too many possibilities, but as well as that, the point Mr Mystery bought up is typical, u go into a shop & ask for trance, they say ian van dahl, ok some remixes are, but that is music made for commercial gain and not to satisfy the clubbers, aka cheese, we need less ignorance from them and to bin that fucking shite stuff b4 it harms us

Exactly! Like I have mentioned before on another thread like this..it was posted by somebody in the US where not many people understand or know trance. Move to Europe, and trance is everywhere.

Well.. I have to say I cant agree with trance dieing... this have been a rumour floating around for awhile now.

I must admit the beginning of 2002 didnt look very good.. there were more remixes than original tracks available... but this is changing very quickly!

I have been vinyl shopping twice in the last 3 weeks and I have to say for the first time this year I picked up a tonne of tracks! First week 20 tracks last weekend another 18... there is some GREAT stuff coming out right now.

Course this is coming from the east coast of the US.. I hear in the west coast things are changing. I just spoke with my friend who came back from burning man and he said more ppl were interested in the places that weren't spinning trance.. more acid jazzy progressive stuff. I think the biggest problem is all the shit remix releases that came out early this year have pushed ppl away. Although I do believe that once the new stuff gets out and played people will come running back.

Part of the problem is the top DJs aren't spinning the new stuff as quick as they should.. I recently heard Oakie live and he spun a set that was quite similar to a set he played earlier this yr??? wtf?? I think the other part of the problem is that the top DJs aren't helping to spread the word about the new stuff. Us little guys are playing all the new amazing stuff.. but our names are not out there enough to hear the music.

Just give it some time... If you aren't a DJ and are not buying vinyl I can see why you would think this.. if you are a DJ out there and hearing the stuff I am hearing then I would imagine you feel the same as I do.

Trance Forever!@!

peace

If you move to a Trance nation like...Holland, Germany, Australia, UK etc. Then you'll know that Trance has been left unscathed.

One of the things that ive noticed in LA is that the scene has moved away from huge massive raves and into 21 and over clubs. Mainly because theyre pretty much banned. People dont do E as much around here and i think that this has catalyzed the transition away from trance. Trance and E go together like peaches and cream but progressive/ breaks are more conducive to a drinking scene. All the anti drug publicity that E has gotten has worked to a certain extent and trance took a big hit from it in LA.

i dont think trance is dying (i bloody hope not anyhow), loadsa mint vinyls coming out and cds.

I actually did start getting sick of repetative trance about 2 weeks ago, downloading tunes and looking forward to hearing them then being disapointed all the time got me down a bit. i was out lasnt week shopping and just bought a loada vinyl the week before, so didnt bohter getting anyhing. i was loooking at the trance cds in hmv and decided to buy paul van dyks politics off adncing mix cd as ive heard so much good comment about it.

got home and hammered it, i was so chuffed that it didnt sound repetative. i absolutely love this cd and have felt the buzz of trance like i used to once again, the cd is quite old but if this kinda music is gonna keep being produced then id say no worries. i know im not gonna stop luving the genre even if it does go underground and less people r into it.

i totally agree that cheesey music they play on tv andd radio is killing trance, i wanna scream wen someone asks me if ive heard the nu ian van dahl or watever cos they know im into trance. i hate it so much , im like > nooooooooo , its bulshitttttttttt. but anyway. all of these sad people who buy this cheese are wasting there money and proberbly would b more into proper trance if they heard it.

anyways, thatss imo.

Mick
