kids learn quicker. Adults brains are plastic, but consider that a kids brain is actually growing. Sure if you just take one topic that would require what a kid know at age 19, it won't pan out that way but kids take in more information and retain it.

And in some subjects like language , you have about a 4 year window to learn it or you will never truly grasp it.

this one doesn't have a typical tonal progression in that it is just parallel chords with intermediate chords formed from voice leading.

basically the chords are

Em 7
Dm7
Cmaj7

which then acts as a aug6 type chord leading to the dominant on B,

the chords formed between those are basically the 1 and the 5 of the chord moving step wise down while the other notes stay the same.

E,G,B,D
Eb,G,Bb,D ( 3rd and 7th still the same)

repeated one tone down

D,F,A,C
Db,F,Ab,C

then the temporary resting point before the dominant

C,E,G,B

The easiest way to parse this stuff if you haven't learned to just recognize chord sonorities is to focus on the top line/ D,D,C,C,B . Then the bass. E,Eb,D,Db, C

Then listen to the inner voices.
