For a moment there I thought "Gangnam Style!" when reading the title.

I've heard some psy I liked (had to make a mix of the stuff for a TA genre competition a few years back), some that bored me... not something I'd go out of my way to listen but I like J00F and Solar Fields and other artists who are making, like Jack said, "deep progressive trance with psychedelic influences". It's the sound that most closely resembles the golden days of the progressive trance that I love.

The actual genre of "progpsy" though, I d/led a few mixes and it just kinda plodded and bored me. Anybody have recommendations for good progpsy?

that joke was wack indeed.

I can only tolerate psy trance if it has progressive condiments.

It just happens that the formula they follow is a little more credible than that of mainstream trance, but it still gets pretty dull pretty fast.

The stuff I really love is essentially deep, progressive trance with a minor psychedelic twist: stuff like Solar Fields or Cosmithex.

System is 110% right with this post.

Some elements of psy and goa have been around for well over a decade. Literally identical, there are moments of brilliance, but it still ends up giving you an earache after a long listen.

Solar field's albums are awesome, not sure if most of the stuff counts as progpsy, but I'll add an extra +1 since he's mentioned a lot already. BTW he did the soundtrack for the game mirror's edge (and it's quite listenable on it's own too). It's also among his better work.

Albums I think are great that might be concidered progpsy. Do note whether I put prog or progsy I'm not making a distinction.

Blue Planet Corporation- Blue Planet (prog/goa crossover prog)
Deviant Species-In The hands of the randomizer (minimalpsy/dark prog)
Autonomech-I/O (dark prog)
Electric Universe-Cosmic experience (excellent overall, and some tracks would be concidered prog)
Highpersonic Women-Alternative Energy Source (very much prog) http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music...ve-energysource ektoplazm (free and legal download) link
Hux Flux-Division by Zero (prog)
Noosphere - Radiated (might be concidered prog, probably a bit iffy)
Pick-The Furious EP http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/pick-the-furious
Sensiant-Blue Neevus (from what I've heard, this is the epitomy of dark prog, it's the only sensient album I've heard though)
Sun Project-Zwork (progpsy)
Sun Project-Insectified (progpsy/chill)
Son Kite-Colours (progpsy)
Tegma-Encoded/Decoded (progpsy)
Tetrameth - The Electic Benevolence (zenon style dark prog... but morning mood throughout)
Ticon-Rewind (progpsy)
Ticon-Zero after six (progpsy)
V/A Mechanics of Awakening (dark prog)
VA Psytravellever volume 2 (some tracks would be prog) http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/psytraveller-vol-2
VA Royal Flush volume 4 (progpsy)
Vibrasphere-Archipelago (progpsy/chill)
Vibrasphere - Compilation tracks (progpsy)
VA - Spiral Trax - Swedish Goa Trance & Progressive (prog/goa crossover prog)
Perfect Stranger - Changed (prog)
Cojurious One - The Art of Mindfucking (darkprog)
Dragon - In.Formation (a crossover between darkpsy with a progish buildup)

Downbeat/ambient/psydub crossovers with progpsy:
Huva Network - Distances
Huva Network - Ephemeris
Ocelot - One (sortof)
Solar Fields-Blue moon station (definitely one of my top 10 albums ever)
Solar Fields-Movements
Solar Fields- Mirrors edge soundtrack (breaks/psydub/ambient with a big progpsy influence)
Solar Fields-Extended
Solar Fields-Leaving home
Distant System - Spiral Empire

I absolutely agree with what he writes too. I started following psy and goa around 7-8 years ago when regular trance was starting to bore me, and listened to it for a few years before moving on. Nowadays I can barely listen to one or two songs before the sound gets formulaic and predictable. Thus I can hardly see psy being the next 'big' thing.

But cosmithex hasn't been producing for that long. A lot of producers recycle some of their old sounds and tell me a list of producers who don't or haven't in the past? I can still distinguish ovnimoon's tracks. Ritmo and E-Clip I can understand though.

To me Psy is alright, I like prog psy better. Only thing i don't like about regular psy is the same kind of bass drum and uplifting baseline. I like a little variation like Timewave.
