I agree.

The problem with the trance scene, is that it's completely dominated by white, straight males at age 20-40. Diversity, yay...

Sounds like you two are very good friends

Well then you have to explain me which way we took to start from Vernon's Wonderland or The Age Of Love and end up with this kind of music that most people call "Trance". I've lived this twice: first in Belgium with a wave of crap between 1997 and 1999 and then in 2001-2002 till now with the guys up north going even more commercial and being imitated by even the most respectable actors of our business who completely lost the plot. The music labelled as Trance today cut ties with its roots a long time ago and those who wanted to remain true to their roots just were let down, misled, and then jilted like the weekly trash.

What people like me, j00f, and many others try to do is extremely simple. We're trying to plant the original seeds where they stood as trees before they got bulldozed for the sake of money and fame. We just think there's an audience for that, and we're not trying to be a trend, a rage, a hype. We do not want to be superstars, we want to be the same cool people in 20 years, and keep doing this.

I keep playing the classics. All the time. Fact is that the crowds we face don't even know those anymore. Why? Because we need those legendary tracks, and we don't want them to be forgotten, ever. At least I can say that I have a link with the past, which most of the new "Trance" doesn't. Question of opinion maybe.

I noticed that a lot of the new crowd are not into the classics as in the ones from the 90's and they consider those as "home listening" The stuff played by Armin and Markus Schulz and the other big room acts they are labelling those as "Club Music" whilst the stuff you and JOOF play is considered to be home listening. They get bored of those kinds of tracks these days they just want to hear loud noisy tracks. What's your opinion on this laurent? Armin stated that if he played your stuff the crowd would go flat. It must be the low attention span they have. I showed a bunch of new people tracks by Humate, Oliver Lieb and some tracks from Eye Q but they didn't like those tracks they said "there is something wrong with each of those tracks" at all they preferred the stuff released by Armada, Blackhole, Coldharbour etc etc.

well, armin only play the worst part of coldharbour tracks. danilo ercole had produced a lot of solid tracks on this label (coldharbour), and get played only 1~2 times on asot in 10 years, lol. the same to basil o'glue, etc

in the other side, the ''big room crap'' from coldharbour producers like skytech have a lot of replays on asot =/

I don't like both hours for the show. I am not a fan of this pure trance movement by solarstone and orkidea it just seems very PLUR and unicorn like even the colour combinations and statements seem like very uncorn like. I am surprised JOOF agreed to such a thing like that. Both Orkidea and Solarstone are even tagging #trancefamily. I don't approve the trancefamily guys at all because they are a bunch of over zealous dudes who gave death threats to that asian dj.

orkidea i dont know, but yeah, solarstone sometimes types #trancefamily blabla thanks for the support

and i dont listen to asot a long time ago...

and this #trancefamily is the most retard movement that i had seen in all of my life. if W&W make a song completely noised with retard synths and shits like that (and obvious, tagged as trance) and you say anything like ''omg, this is not trance" you will be flamed to the death lol

his crowd doesn't get it? Not surprising. Good even. Those guys have their own scene, and we have ours.

Then about your people. If they've had junk food all their life, don't expect them to appreciate something else. Same goes for people listening to experimental music. I had an argument once with one of those who didn't understand that I kept making this easy and precictable music that's 20 years old now while I could do much better.

7 billion people on earth. Chance that you find likeminded people is now big. Forget about the others. They will never get your point.

I'm a little baffled anyone would say (Armin included) that stuff like what's on JOOF wouldn't be well liked at a big show.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong (it's 6 am here, too tired to do proper fact-checking right now), but isn't Sunburn by John 00 Fleming a JOOF release?

I've been tossing it into my adventure/ euro type trance sets for a couple years, and the crowd fucking loves it.

At least here in Washington state, the ravers appreciate funky psy-like basslines, AND epic melodies.

Maybe I'm just lucky though.
