i recently started a record label with a friend of mine...i do the electronic dance side, he does the rock side...we got the label registered locally in the county through the county clerks office...its a general partnership "doing business as.."...it wasnt expensive @ all to get the business started...$13 to register the label, then another $5 to get the "d.b.a..." notarized...once that step is done, then if you plan on hiring people or selling items (records, equipment, services..) then you need to get a tax id or EIN...you can find this on irs.gov ... go to the tax forms search field & type in form SS-4. thats the next key...after that, your budget & talent is the deciding factor in your success
my label is extremly new, as im still trying to finish building my studio...
cheers m8
