I prefer the William Orbit version of Adagio, and I was never a fan of Traffic.

Actually, I think Traffic really takes the cake in terms of having absolutely nothing going on beyond a kick drum and two obnoxiously loud notes on a synth. Hell, even Theme From Norefjell at least had some sort of melody.

Both are extremely basic, they were unusually banging for trance standards but if you look at what sort of techno was in vogue at the time it's really nothing to write home about. Lethal industry was even worse. I love how his worst work somehow had the biggest success.

Traffic is simple, is a rip off... but completely destroys the dancefloor, a real banger, solid kick, solid bass, pristine hats a good hook... in this case simpler = better.

I can say the same about Adagio 4 strings, the string part is very cheesy i don't like it... I am tired of this track but i remember being a huge fan of it when i started listening to trance.

Who cares if Tiesto hand crafted the tracks himself in a rural pottery barn in Switzerland or if they were completely ghost produced by a genocidal African dictator? The tracks stand or fall on their merit, and both tracks are fucking terrible. And Psychofuk is rubbish as well.

They aren't really that bad -- they could have been much worse like, for example, that "Psychofuk" track. What's funny is that nobody wants so as much to admit that Tiesto took "Psychofuk" and made a better version of it.

These tracks are also much better than a lot of what passes off as "real trance" (e.g. Age of Love, We Came in Peace, Aceperience 1) even if you add bonus points to the latter for being released a decade earlier. Good luck explaining that to aspies.

edit: alright, I think I exaggerated a little lol. the above may apply to adagio for strings, but traffic is worse and so it would be about the same if you added bonus points.

production is ok. Nothing bad , the leads in both have been copied by many so they were influential. Adagio is a remix which is also the main element of the track so despite how brilliant it is , can't give tiesto et al. credit for that.

so ya. good. They were current for the time they were released.
