What James did here is basically push the "trance" fagotry to its limits, something that no other hipster had courage to do. But he isn't quite there yet for the logical conclusion of all this fagotry is silence. Wait till he starts making Top 10 tracks of silence!

However, there is a point to his bleatings, but only if you don't take what he says literally, that is to say, only if you look at him as a kind of fool -- a kind of jester -- whose point is to demonstrate a higher point -- that there is no "real trance" music.

Oh pipe down, Existo.

EDIT: I don't know why anyone would find this list unexpected, anyway. Holden has been very loudly on the run from his laser-reaching roots for about seven years now, so what did you expect? Love Stimulation?

Neuroscience has shown lol. Neuroscence has shown, you fucking clueless moran, that EVERY MUSIC HAS AN EFFECT ON THE BRAIN. And even more than that -- that every sound has an effect on the brain! that even fucking silence has an effect on the brain!

Basically, to demolish this "trance" fagotry once and for all, the word "hypnotic" is an euphemism for sleep-inducing a.k.a. boring. This is how talentless fucks such as James Holden try to pass off boring music as something profound in order to sell themselves, to make a living.

Would hardly call the guy who brought us tracks like this talent less.

Incidentally, the other half of Ogenki Clinic is a guy called Gwill Morris (who was also in Main Element, etc.) and he's also the resident at a classics night called Plasma Future in Manchester. He plays a lot of Holden and Silver Planet, so if you want to hear the twinkly Holden prog sound on a dancefloor, go see Gwill Morris instead. He's very good at what he does, too.

I actually think the list was pretty cool. That Mogwai track for instance, neat stuff. And that Yacouba Konste track. I love any track that contains the korah instrument. Not as good korah player as Touman Diabate but still great.

i dont find the list surprising and wasnt looking for something different, a person can change their sound and their tastes and thats ok, what gets me going about holden is the sarcastic hipster loser vibe that just comes out of his mouth. he absolutely gets on my nerves. but understandable bc for all he has done to get away from his original sound, thats the only thing he will ever be remembered for as his newer material is just not that good on any level if you ask me.

As an aside he once called this the first trance record ever made, for those unfamiliar with it, its a great track that shows electronic music really did begin in the 70s and that pre trance sound was a part of german music long before mfs and eye q records.

EDIT/UPDATE:

same mag has a much better list of the top 10 acid house tracks according to DJ Pierre Now this is a list!

we call it aceeeed

the few tracks i know are more techno than trance in my books, considering he has produced trance isn't that easy either he produced considerably slower and deeper music than the rest of his colleagues but he has brought to me a lot of choons. I've been listening to his remix of the sky was pink this morning.
