that's fucked....

art is fucked up these days. shitty artists can't get recognized for their art, so they go and do something contraversial/stupid to get some recognition.

art is supposed to be provocative/shocking/out of the ordinary nowadays to be noticed...

I'm with tranzmit on this one.

thought provoking? thinking of people falling from burning buildings and splattering (excuse my bluntness) when they hit the ground is not my idea of "a higher level of thought." im thinking more along the lines of umm...publicity stunt?

I agree. It's selfish.
I can't fathom how someone is going to allow a statue -of what might be a family member of one who was involved in the tragedy -to be exposed like this? For what reason? Attention? Publicity?MONEY? HATE perhaps. It is so selfish, inconsiderate, unethical and not to mention disrespectful. The artist looks for trouble- knowing how much controversy it would cause-why would it allowed?
Next time let's make a statue of a victim who didn't survive rape & murder.

Art is supposed to be shocking? What the hell?
More like creative... and this lacks creativity.
Maybe if the artist had some, this wouldn't have happened.
Where is Keith Haring when you need him.... R.I.P.

Agreed.

"It's suppose to dignify their deaths"

It's suppose to be an expressive piece...expressive? This guys just an asshole. This isn't creative. This is a cheap way out. A cheap way to gaining publicity.

"Tumbling Woman"- bizarre!

someone made the point before that the sculpture is supposed to be thought provoking, and is supposed to express the pain and suffering felt that day. fine, i give credit for that, that's artistic.

but i mean, haven't people felt enough suffering? what kind of emotions is the artist trying to evoke in the viewer? anger? hate. i dunno what the artist was thinking.

Every artists goal is to express ideas and invoke thoughts. By the response of the magazine and peoples responses to this thread, he's accomplished at least one of them.
