Since I don't have a dishwasher, I prefer to do my dishes right after a meal, but sometimes I get lazy and leave them for a day or two

OrangestO, I agree with you brother... I knock 'em out right away; as I go. It's satisfying to have a nearly completely clean kitchen before you start eating.

I also like to leave the dishes underwater... it makes the bacteria reproduce faster, and the odds of making an enormous contribution to medicine increase TO THE MAX!!!

And clean, obviously

If my girlfriend didn't put pressure on me to work outside of the house at a regular job, I wouldn't mind being a stay at home dad (in 7 months) and doing freelance work/writing in my spare time.

One of my current jobs is editing/writing for a publisher and I have the luxury of doing it from home, so it would work out well if she caved in.

OrangestO, I do the exact same thing you do.

I do the dishes AS I cook (pans, bowls I used to mix, etc), and then after I plate my food, before eating I have to make sure all the dishes are done before I actually eat the food.

When I have company over, they fucking HATE it But it's like an obsession I have I guess.

Depends.

#1)Cooking a simple meal with very few pots(2 max)
-After meal is eating:Clean all dishes, pots, utensils, glasses, windex counters, table tops, stove top grease
example: pasta with sauce
-time 20 min

#2)Cooking a more advance dishes with cutting boards, more pots(more than 2), mixing bowls
-After meal is eaten:Clean all dishes, pots, utensils, glasses, windex counters, table tops, stove top grease
example: diced chicken with sauteed onions, tikka masala sauce, naan bread
-time 30 min

#3)Cooking/preparing and then baking.
-After meal is prepared for baking: Clean all dishes, pots, and stove while meal is being baked.
-20 min
example: eggplant parm or mexican pizza(jiffy)
-After meal is eaten: Clean remaining dishes, utensils, glasses windex counters, table tops
-time 15 min

Longest clean time for me was 45ish minutes. Had 14 people over for a holiday meal. Used as many disposable kitchenware but could not hide from the cleaning of cookware, serving, serving dishes!! Had a lawn bag(black bag) almost full of food garbage, disposable kitchenware!

I always do #1,#2, #3 is in order how often I make those meals from most to least. I like my kitchen clean as oppose collecting to bugs!

Depends on the meal. If I can get away with cleaning stuff as I'm cooking or right after it's done, I will, normally with a glass of wine or an Old Fashioned. If I've cooked something that needs to be eaten right away, though, I'll eat and then take a few minutes break before cleaning. Normally will at least soak the pots/pans, though. I can't stand having dirty dishes in my kitchen. In my study, though... I tend to bring different drinks or snacks in and then leave them on my desk, until I can no longer use the computer lol

Ok, so washing things up as you go, while waiting for the food to cook, no problems there at all, I do that too. My girl doesn't, but whatever. Washing things up after serving but before eating? Madness! You're doing two lots of dishes! I'd much rather do them all at once, after eating.

Dinner parties and stuff like that, wtf. It's a social thing, not a "I have to do the dishes immediately" thing. Boring.

(a) Rinse plates/cutlery -> Dishwasher, or,
(b) Rinse plates/cutlery -> Put them to the side (or soak in the sink) until later/tomorrow, so you can continue to chill with your friends.

In my experience, the only time you should want to keep away from your guests, to do the dishes, is if you're in poor company
