It's interesting to know how people reacted to such a dark beauty like '6 Weeks'. To round it up, I really liked the the section from Sights Beyond to Oyama(icing on the cake) I really heard a bunch of new track and look forward to hearing more from you.

Wow that's an amazing review. I think when you put mixes on forums, this is an example of the best kind of feedback you could ever hope for (I don't mean the positivity, more the detail that you go in to). So thanks very much!

The sound system at the H Bar when we hold JOOF Editions (Dan, the other resident, brings his own rig especially) is high fidelity and earth shaking. From where I was stood, Papillon sounded huge in there, and it certainly had everyone dancing; it's a great track, and you are right, it has a very distinctive bassline. I'm learning more and more how important the groove in a baseline is when you are DJing early on.

The tunes that got the best reactions on the night were Dilruba, L-Syd, La Consagracian de la noche, and all of the last 4 tunes.

What surprised me was that Oliver Prime - Sights Beyond (one of my all time favourites) suffered a similar fait to 6 weeks & 1 million years. I've played that tune before at other gigs, pitched up at 138 bpm, and it's gone ballistic. Not the case this time; although some people were clearly loving the melody in the main breakdown, a lot of people seemed to stop dancing. I think it has to do with the way the baseline kind of disappears after the first break and returns very gradually, rather than slamming back in like with most tracks. Maybe people were waiting for that to happen and it never did; but when I've played it faster at peak time it seems more anthemic so people keep dancing? I dunno. I still think its a masterpiece so it won't stop me playing it, but I may think twice before using it in a warm up set again

Yeah, Sights Beyond looked a bit out of place on the tracklist and I was wondering how it would fit. It didn't sound terrible by any means, but it was odd hearing it pitched down (rather than ramped up). I think that track is quite flowing with plenty of trancey momentum - long arpeggiated synth lines, quite propulsive hi-hats and a rapid bassline, which is not really the kind of track that works best in a warm-up set (perhaps why it didn't go down so well).

Anyway, you already know my thoughts of this mix. Not being a huge fan of the dark prog sound I wasn't enraptured by it, but in technical terms it's amongst your best sets and you're really improving at programming a steady warm-up set without any of the obvious panic inclusions of your early warm-up mixes.

Yea you are probably right there - I think this is the sort of lesson you can only learn with experience :-)

Thanks for the comments as always. I'm definitively a lot more confident at it now than I was a year or so ago. Again, the only way to learn is to play live really - so difficult to learn what really works just be going clubbing.
